Serious Nose Work By Jamie Davies in the Big Apple

Upon authoring and being approved to instruct two new security dog handling courses within the new PRS03 - "Certificate III in Security" package - "Handle Dogs for security Petrols and Manage dogs for Security Function" - I decided to travel to the United States to be updated personally in regard to the private sector Security Dog operations in U.S.

I stayed in company with Andy Hanellin from New York K9 Search & Detection where I undertook further training and work experience for certification in k9 explosives and narcotic detection training and handling.

what I witnessed in the U.S. with regard to the private sector working dog industry was an appreciation of these profrssional services offered to safequard society.From explosive detection services in downtown Manhattan to narcotic searches in many schools nad other areas,I saw a public respect of these working dog operation wherever I went.

I found that k9 explosives detection was in high demand for organization of all types, throughout the country,with operations underway in different areas almost every hour of every day.The dogs we personally used were of good breeding and exceptional working qualiy. All work i obeserved being conducted was of the highest standard and undertaken in a thoroughly professional and efficient manner,often under the watchful eye of many fascinated observers.

Every working dog I encountered had been certified for its classification through goverment approved associations,with all maintenance training and operational work logged for review, including annual re-testing.

It was good to learn and experience how these professional services were being operated at high lavels and to see how advanced the privae security dog industry was in regard to assisting U.S. national security.

Back In Aus we aim to apply similar produres to increase professional k9 security.
